Canelo vs. Crawford: Your Ultimate Guide to the Fight of the Year!

Alright, fight fans, listen up! We’ve got the biggest boxing match of the year finally upon us: Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford! This isn’t just any fight; it’s an undisputed super middleweight title showdown happening this Saturday night at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Seriously, if you’re into boxing, you absolutely can’t miss this.

Contents
  • How to Watch:  Netflix (Yep, you heard that right!)
  • My Take

Why’s it so huge? Well, for starters, if Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford pulls off the win, he’ll become a three-weight-class undisputed champion, a truly rare feat! He’s moving up to 168 pounds for the first time, which is a massive jump considering he’s never fought above 154 pounds. Talk about a challenge!

Then there’s Canelo Alvarez, the reigning super middleweight king. He’s defending his titles on Mexican Independence Day weekend, an occasion that’s practically become synonymous with his epic fights. This is his most high-profile bout since taking on Dmitry Bivol in 2022, and he’s got everything to lose, especially with Crawford coming up two whole weight classes. But Canelo’s not one to shy away from a challenge. He actually enjoys the grind, saying, “I enjoy sparring the most. I can spar every day… [Crawford is] a really good fighter, and this is a challenge for me.” He’s working on facing every style and believes he has the experience to handle it. You gotta respect that confidence!

This isn’t just a regular fight either; it’s billed as “Once In A Lifetime” and marks the first Zuffa Boxing event promoted by none other than UFC CEO Dana White under the TKO umbrella. So, you know it’s going to be a spectacle!

Here’s the lowdown for the big night

Date: Saturday, September 13

Location: Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas

Start Time: 9 p.m. ET (for the main card)

How to Watch:  Netflix (Yep, you heard that right!)

And let’s not forget the undercard, which is packed with some solid matchups! You’ve got an interim super middleweight title fight featuring Christian M’billi vs. Lester Martinez, plus a clash between rising prospects Callum Walsh vs. Fernando Vargas Jr. There’s plenty of action before the main event kicks off!

Quick Look at the Odds (Subject to Change, of course!)

Canelo Alvarez (c) -165 vs. Terence Crawford +130 (Undisputed Super Middleweight Title)

Callum Walsh -335 vs. Fernando Vargas Jr. +240 (Junior Middleweights)

Christian M’billi (c) -205 vs. Lester Martinez +150 (Interim WBC Super Middleweight Title)

My Take

Honestly, this fight is an absolute dream for any boxing enthusiast. You’ve got two pound-for-pound greats, both with incredible legacies, stepping into the ring for what truly feels like a ‘once in a lifetime’ event. Crawford moving up two weight classes is a testament to his ambition, but it’s also a massive ask. Canelo, on the other hand, is at home at 168, strong and experienced. I think Canelo’s size and power at this weight class will be a huge factor, and while Crawford’s defensive wizardry and ring IQ are off the charts, overcoming that physical disadvantage against a top-tier guy like Canelo is incredibly tough. I’m leaning towards Canelo to retain his titles, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Crawford pulls off the upset of a lifetime. Either way, get ready for fireworks – this one’s going to be epic!
